As we all know, healthy soil is the foundation of productive, resilient farmland. Across Ontario, more and more farmers are turning to wollastonite to strengthen their soils, boost yields, and improve crop health, all while reducing input costs and simplifying management.
Rich in calcium, silicon, and magnesium, wollastonite supports strong root development, improves nutrient uptake, and helps plants build natural resistance to common stresses like drought, pests, and disease. It’s a practical, sustainable amendment that integrates easily into existing operations, applied with standard lime-spreading equipment and approved for use in organic systems.
And thanks to UNDO’s Canadian farmer program, it’s available at a subsidised rate, with minimal effort required from the grower.
Stronger Crops, Healthier Soil, Less Effort
Wollastonite enhances soil conditions in several ways. Its high calcium content supports healthy root systems and improves the availability of other nutrients in the soil. Silicon, often called the “resilience nutrient,” helps crops tolerate harsh weather, resist fungal diseases, and build stronger cell walls.
Field experience and trials have shown increases in yields, crop grades, and resilience across a wide variety of crops, from grains and vegetables to vineyards and forage. Because it’s slow-releasing, wollastonite continues to support pH and nutrient efficiency over multiple seasons.
Unlike traditional lime, which may need to be reapplied frequently, wollastonite can deliver agronomic benefits for up to three years after a single application.
Nutrient Composition of Wollastonite
Wollastonite offers more than just pH control. Its unique nutrient profile supports crop growth and long-term soil health:

Silicon (Si) |
59.2% |
Boosts resistance to pests, disease, and drought, improves plant resilience. |
Magnesium (Mg) |
5.76% |
Essential for chlorophyll and photosynthesis. |
Sulphur (S) |

In many cases, trucking costs are reduced through the Kingston Wollastonite rebate, depending on farm location. Final pricing is discussed upfront, and there are no additional charges or product sales involved.
What the UNDO Program Provides
UNDO supplies and spreads wollastonite on eligible farms at no cost, with the farmer only covering the cost of trucking. This allows farmers to access the benefits of wollastonite without needing to purchase inputs, arrange machinery, or change their cropping plans.
For farms located near Kingston, a rebate on trucking costs is also available, making it even more accessible for growers across eastern Ontario.
Everything else is taken care of, including:
– Field review and suitability assessment
– Soil sampling before spreading
– Logistics coordination and professional spreading
– Soil sampling post-spread
The program is funded through the sale of high-integrity carbon removal credits. UNDO retains the carbon credits while farmers reap the agronomic benefits, therefore allowing the service to remain free for farmers.
Who Is Eligible?
Farms located within roughly 150 km of the Canadian Wollastonite site near Kingston are prioritised, though exceptions may be made. In general, the program is best suited to:
– Farms with at least 20 acres
– Soil pH in the 6.0 to 7.0 range
– Farms growing cereals, forage, or vegetables
– Growers open to soil sampling and basic field coordination
If pH levels are unknown, that’s not a problem; UNDO can help assess suitability and provide guidance.
How the Program Works: Step-by-Step
1. Submit basic information
Fill in a short interest form with your location, crop type, and land size. This helps prioritise eligible farms. If preferred, we can do this over the phone or in person.
2. Assessment and follow-up
The team reviews the information and may follow up with questions about recent lime use, soil texture, or access. If needed, a quick phone call can clarify next steps.
3. Soil sampling
Where appropriate, soil samples are taken before and after spreading to monitor benefits and share results with the farmer.
4. Spreading
Wollastonite is delivered and spread at 2–4 tonnes per acre using standard lime equipment. Timing is scheduled around harvest or planting windows and does not interfere with crops.
5. No maintenance or reporting required
Once the application is complete, there’s nothing more you need to do. UNDO tracks the impact for carbon removal purposes, and you get the full benefit of a healthier, stronger soil profile.

Common Questions from Farmers
What if I don’t know my soil pH?
That’s not a problem. Eligibility isn’t limited to those with test results, and we’ll take soil samples for you. It’s still worth registering interest to start the conversation.
What crops does it work best on?
Wollastonite supports a wide range of crops, including grains, hay, pasture, vegetables, and vines. It’s approved for organic use and works well across different farming systems.
How soon will I see results?
Many farmers report improvements in crop strength and health within the first season. pH improvements, root development, and input efficiency continue to build over time.
Is this available across all of Ontario?
Priority is given to farms near the Kingston area for lower haulage costs and emissions. Farms farther out are assessed individually.
Will it affect my land use or rotation?
No. This is a low-impact, one-time application with no effect on crop planning, certification, or farm operations. Should you choose, we can reapply in approximately 3 years.
What about carbon credits?
UNDO retains all carbon credits associated with the program. Farmers enjoy the agronomic benefits without needing to manage any part of the carbon process.
Wollastonite’s Role in the Future of Farming
Wollastonite represents a tried and tested soil amendment that is practical, science-backed, and rooted in real farm results. While it contributes to permanent carbon removal through enhanced weathering, its value on the farm is immediate and visible: healthier crops, stronger soils, and reduced reliance on synthetic inputs or frequent liming.
As agriculture evolves to meet new environmental and economic challenges, tools like wollastonite are helping farms stay productive, profitable, and resilient, without requiring major changes to how they work.
