For farmers across Eastern Ontario, every input needs to earn its place. Rising costs, variable weather, and changing soil conditions all shape decisions about where to invest.
Wollastonite offers a different approach. This naturally occurring calcium silicate mineral, sourced locally from Seeley’s Bay, provides calcium and plant-available silicon while gradually breaking down in the soil.
UNDO is now making the existing program more accessible to farms closest to the wollastonite source with a new $5/tonne haulage subsidy for eligible farms within 150km of Seeley’s Bay.
The rock itself and professional spreading continue to be fully covered by UNDO. The new subsidy reduces the remaining haulage cost, helping more local farms apply wollastonite on their land.
New $5/Tonne Haulage Subsidy For Eligible Farms
We understand that haulage can still be a notable cost for farmers participating in the UNDO program, especially after a dry 2025 season.
That is why, for the 2026 season, farms within 150km of the Seeley’s Bay quarry and outside the City of Kingston municipal boundary can now receive a $5/tonne contribution towards trucking costs.
For eligible farms, the program includes:
– Wollastonite supplied at no cost
– Professional spreading fully funded
– A $5/tonne contribution towards haulage
– Free baseline soil testing and field mapping
Our goal is to make it easier for farms near the quarry to access locally sourced wollastonite without taking on the full cost of getting it to the field.
What Wollastonite Can Bring To Your Fields
Wollastonite is a naturally occurring calcium silicate mineral. As it gradually weathers in the soil, it releases calcium and plant-available silicon.
Research into calcium silicate and silicon has identified several potential agronomic benefits, including increasing nutrient uptake, improving crop strength, and helping plants respond to environmental and disease pressures.
Plant-Available Silicon
Silicon can accumulate within plant tissues and has been linked with stronger plant structure and improved responses to a range of stresses.
Studies across crops, including wheat, hay, forage, and pasture, have demonstrated benefits from silicon or calcium silicate applications under different growing conditions.
A Source Of Calcium
Wollastonite also supplies calcium as it weathers. Calcium is an important plant nutrient and plays a role in plant structure and a range of physiological processes.
Soil pH Support
Unlike fast-reacting agricultural lime, wollastonite weathers gradually, supplying calcium and beneficial silicon as it breaks down. Field trials have shown that this gradual release helps stabilize soil pH and neutralize acidity over multiple seasons, reducing how often a field needs reapplication.
Similar to lime, wollastonite supplies calcium and helps stabilize soil pH, but because it releases more gradually, benefits including silicon tend to last several seasons. Since the rate and response depend on soil conditions and application rate, we begin every farm application with soil testing, helping our team understand whether wollastonite is appropriate for a particular field.
How the UNDO Farmers Program Works
We have designed the program to fit around your existing farming operations.
1. Free Soil Testing And Field Mapping
Every application starts with an eligibility assessment to learn more about your fields.
We arrange baseline soil testing, including measurements such as pH, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and CEC, alongside field mapping, at no cost to the farmer.
This helps our team identify suitable fields before any spreading takes place.
2. Wollastonite Delivery And Professional Spreading
Once fields have been approved, we coordinate delivery and spreading through local contractors.
Wollastonite is applied using standard agricultural spreading equipment when your fields are ready.
3. Carbon Removal Happens As The Rock Weathers
The program is made possible by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through enhanced rock weathering.
When wollastonite reacts with carbonic acid naturally present in soil water, the weathering process transforms CO₂ into dissolved bicarbonate. This allows UNDO to generate permanent carbon removal while supporting the cost of putting wollastonite onto agricultural land.
For farmers, there is no carbon removal equipment to operate or anything else needed. Once the wollastonite has been spread, weathering takes place naturally over time.
What Is Your Farm Eligible For?
Support for the 2026 season varies depending on where your farm is located.
City Of Kingston
Eligible farms within the City of Kingston municipal boundary can access fully subsidized haulage through a combination of the City of Kingston’s $5/tonne trucking rebate and an additional top up from UNDO.
For eligible farms, wollastonite, haulage and professional spreading are therefore fully covered with zero cost to the farmer.
Outside the City of Kingston and within 150km of Seeley’s Bay
Eligible farms outside the Kingston municipal boundary but within 150km of the Seeley’s Bay quarry can receive our new $5/tonne haulage subsidy.
Wollastonite supply and professional spreading are also fully covered by UNDO.
